BYU Cougs in the news: Elijah Bryant has career-night in huge win; The latest on Davies, Mika and Tavernari

To say that Elijah Bryant had a big game on Monday would be an understatement.

The former BYU standout came up huge late in the game, making play after play to lead the Hapoel Mall Hayam Eilat Sharks to an 81-75 win over Bnei Rav-Bariach Herzliya.

Bryant finished with a career-high 31 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field and 8-for-10 from the free-throw line. He also added seven rebounds and a steal in 33 minutes as the Sharks snapped a three-game losing streak.

Bryant did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 21 of his 31 points as the Sharks overcame a 16-point deficit to earn the win. He was especially good in the fourth, scoring 10 straight points down the stretch for the Sharks who turned a three-point deficit into a  five-point lead.

The Winner League Twitter page shared some awesome video of all of Bryant’s shots from the field.

His huge outing was good enough to earn him a spot on the Winner League’s ideal five for the week.

On the season, Bryant is second in the league in scoring, averaging 22.5 points a game on 59.6 percent shooting from the floor and 83.3 percent from the foul line. He also chips in with 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 36.8 minutes a contest.

Davies hits double figures in Lithuanian League win

Brandon Davies scored in double figures for the sixth game in a row and the seventh time in eight tries during LKL action as Zalgiris Kaunas knocked off Lietkabelis, 71-58 over the weekend.

In the win, the former BYU star totaled 10 points on the strength of 4-for-6 shooting from the floor while collecting four rebounds (two on the offensive end) and making a steal in 21:51.

In eight Lithuanian League games, Davies is averaging 12.8 points on 55.9 percent shooting to go along with 4.8 boards, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals in 19:27.

He is even better in EuroLeague action, contributing 14 points a night on 56.8 percent shooting with 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 25:16.

The latest on Mika and Tavernari in Italy

Eric Mika saw his most time of the season as Germani Brescia Leonessa dropped a heartbreaker to Ratiopharm Ulm, 83-82 on Tuesday.

In the loss, the former BYU inside force totaled six points on 1-for-3 shooting from the floor and 4-for-8 from the foul line. He added two rebounds, an assist and a steal in 17:43 on the floor.

In five EuroCup games, Mika is putting up 4.2 points a night on 50 percent shooting with 2.0 rebounds in 11:58.

In four Italian League games, he is averaging 4.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in 13.5 minutes.

As for Jonathan Tavernari, he had another solid showing on Sunday as Pallacanestro Cantu outlasted Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia 101-95.

In the win, the former Cougar sharpshooter managed six points on 50 percent shooting from the beyond the arc while chipping in with five rebounds and two helpers in 18 minutes.

On the season, Tavernari is averaging 6.7 points on 50 percent shooting to go along with 4.4 rebounds in 20.7 minutes.
