Led by big games from Jimmer Fredette and Brandon Davies plus some big late-game shot making from Ra’Shad James, Team Fredette advanced to the second round of TBT with an 88-80 win over the Peoria All-Stars on Saturday afternoon.
Despite a slow start, Jimmer paced all scorers in the win with 32 points on 9-for-17 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and a perfect 11-for-11 from the foul line. He also chipped in with three assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals while playing 36 minutes.
Davies also delivered a key performance in the win, registering 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field and 7-for-11 from the free-throw line. He also gathered eight rebounds, handed out four assists, collected two steals and had one of the highlight plays of the game with a huge swat.
Team Fredette had a rough go of it early on trailing by as many as 12 points in the first quarter before they found the range on the offensive end. Davies was big during the comeback, including a stretch where he got to the basket on three straight possessions and finished in traffic to close the gap.
Jimmer also played a massive role in the second-quarter surge, scoring 16 of his 18 first half points including three deep triples and a three-point play.
One of his most impressive baskets during that stretch came when he pulled up from just inside the halfcourt line and buried a three to give Team Fredette a two-point lead.
Team Fredette also got a huge outing from James who connected on three fourth-quarter triples to finish the day with 14 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Another catalyst for Team Fredette off the bench was Jamaal Tatum who saw just three minutes of action but came through with six big points in the back-and-forth affair.
Former Cougar, Charles Abouo also saw plenty of time in the hard-fought win and finished with three points, three rebounds and an assist.
Montel James carried the scoring load for the Peoria All-Stars in the loss, finishing with 28 points on 11-for-15 shooting from the floor. He was also the leader on the glass with 12 rebounds in 28 minutes.
Aldonis Foote also had a nice effort for the All-Stars, totaling 11 points and six boards while Jordan Fasion managed 10 points and eight rebounds off the pine.
