Asia-Basket.com handed out its All-Chinese CBA Awards for 2018 and Jimmer Fredette made an appearance for the second season in a row.
Despite finishing in the top three in the regular season in scoring and leading the league in 3-pointers made, Fredette wasn’t named to the First-Team. Instead, the former BYU guard was given Second-Team honors along with four other former NBA players.
During the 38-game regular season, Fredette averaged 37.4 points per game on 48 percent shooting from inside the arc, 42 percent from distance and 95 percent from the foul line. He also contributed 6.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.0 steals in 41 minutes.
Courtney Fortson, Darius Adams, MarShon Brooks, Yi Jianlian and former Lone Peak High School star Justin Hamilton took home First-Team recognition with Fortson being named Player of the Year.
Brandon Davies collects two MVP Awards in one day
Brandon Davies has been playing at a very high level as of late helping Zalgiris Kaunas to the best winning percentage in the Lithuanian League and earning a trip to the Final Four in EuroLeague.
The EuroLeague Basketball YouTube channel shared highlights of the strong play from Davies that earned him the award.
In five games in EuroLeague in April, Davies averaged 17.2 points on 65.1 percent shooting from the floor and 85.7 percent from the foul line. He added 4.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.2 blocks and 1.0 assists as his team went 4-1.
His strong play in EuroLeague carried over to LKL action on Sunday where he delivered a dominating performance as Zalgiris roughed up Nevezis, 91-72. In the big win, Davies recorded a team-high 18 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the floor. He added six rebounds, four blocks, two assists and a steal in just 17:39 of work to take home the league’s highest weekly honor.
In 31 games in the LKL, Davies is putting up a team-best 9.4 points on 58.3 percent shooting from the field to go along with 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 16:13.
The latest on Carlino, Abouo and Mika
Matt Carlino had solid showing as his Roseto Sharks dropped a 91-83 decision to Virtus Rome on Sunday. In the loss, he finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 33 minutes.
Carlino and the Sharks will have another crack at Virtus Rome on Thursday when the two teams face off in the second game of the best-of-three series.
Charles Abouo had a productive night on Friday as his FOS Provence team came away with a 74-71 win over Caen. In the win, he managed 11 points, two rebounds and a pair of steals in 28 minutes.
Through 30 games, Abouo is averaging 13.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 steals in 28 minutes.
Eric Mika was out of commission on Sunday as VL Pesaro managed a 75-70 win over Armani Milano. According to the team’s website, Mika missed the contest with a left knee issue.
Through 27 games, Mika is averaging 14 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.2 assists in 28.7 minutes.
