The National Hockey League released the schedule for the 2013-14 season today and from looking at it, it seems like they are returning to the place where they need to be. That place is, putting the fans first. Obviously, it was very difficult to think of the fans last season, when there had to be a condensed schedule, but this year is starting off on the right foot.
While going over the schedule, I noticed that there was a two-week break in the middle of the season for the Olympic games in Sochi. Then I quickly found out the NHLPA, the NHL and the International Ice Hockey Federation had come to an agreement, to let NHL players once again play in the Olympics. That came as a huge sigh of relief because I knew that a deal had yet to be struck for that to happen.
The most important part of this for me is that, I have huge amounts of National pride (as do most Canadians when it comes to hockey) and I really want to see the best of the best be on the ice as Canada tries to defend its Gold Medal from the 2010 Vancouver games.
I’m very pleased that the NHL did what was best for the fans because let face it, the NHL isn’t the only hockey game that matters!
